Party flyers through the years…
If you didn’t know it yet, I love to make flyers… for my own events, and for others’. I have made a bunch for my friend Mark’s annual holiday parties, and several for my own. I enjoy the process, be it alone or with other people, and I enjoy sharing the product with others. I hope you enjoy this selection!
(if you don’t have it already, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader to look at these flyers)

1992/1993 Lewis Holiday Party
Righteous Living

“Righteous Living” was our first foray into the world of high-quality flyer production. The Idea was to produce a religious-right newsletter with the looks of an old National Geographic cover. My favorite article is still “The King Trimmed My Chia Pet,” and I still don’t know why…

1993/1994 Lewis Holiday Party
Zombie Santa from Planet X

88K Download
This was based on a 50’s/60’s B-movie poster. Considered by many to be the highpoint in Lewis Holiday Party flyers. Subtle but pointed, sparse but evocotive. The flyers got more complicated, but not necessarily better, from here on.

1994/1995 Lewis Holiday Party
Mighty Morphin’ Power Santa

A page out of a TV Guide. Yes, the party date, time and RSVP date are burried in there somewhere! The graphics took a long time to develop.

1995/1996 Lewis Holiday Party
Dewar’s Profile

160K Download
This was a cheesy cop-out. We hade actually done the Dewar’s Profile ads for ourselves back when the real ads were current (say, 1983). A new picture, add a mention of the party, and voila; holiday flyer.

1996/1997 Lewis Holiday Party
Publishers Clearinghouse

208K Download
We were making a concious effort to get back to the feel of the Righteous Living flyer. No graphics, but plenty of verbiage.

1997 Erik’s Birthday Party
Cheeseburger in Paradise

504K Download
I loved Hawaiian shirts then, and I love them now. This party was a luau theme, with a real-life roast piglet!.

1997 Erik’s Halloween Party
Trailer Trash Extravganzo

400K Download
I think this is my all-time favorite flyer. The theme was a blast, and the graphics were the most advanced thing I had done to-date. I think it still holds up today!

1997/1998 Lewis Holiday Party
The X-Mas Files

272K Download
The idea of making an X-Files spoof flyer was a direct result of this graphic, which we found on the Internet. I added the martini glass and Guiness bottle, but otherwise this is a real X-Files pulicity shot. The Party Is Out There.

1998 Erik’s Halloween Party
Dead Celebrity Party

180K Download
Come as your favorite dead celebrity! I had some pretty creative guests, like a group of people who came as the [dead] Heaven’s Gate cult members… Fun!

1998/1999 Lewis Holiday Party
Personal Ads

84K Download
Another “less is more” flyer. This time, the twist is that we printed it on tabloid size paper, so it’s almost the size of a real newspaper. Invitees really had to read the whole thing, as the actual party time and date were in the form of an ad, about 2/3 of the way down the page…

1999 Erik’s Halloween Party
Have a Nice Decade!

132K Download
Kind of a weak tie-in to “that 70’s show” which I am not too proud of. This was a quick, last minute job.

1999/2000 Lewis Holiday Party
PartymonThis year Eugene did a Pokemon spinoff called “Partymon”. It was quite funny, and I am looking for a pdf version to post here..

2000/2001 Lewis Holiday Party
Mark Lewis Online

212K Download 224K Download
The ultimate “gimick” flyer. This one came disguised as a AOL coaster… er, disk. It’s a real music CD with 24 Christmas favorites, and the ubiqious little instructions insert. Yes, visqueen is a real word. Look it up.

2001 Erik’s Halloween Party
Generic Halloween Party

168K Download
Even though this party/flyer has no theme, I still like the look and feel.

2001/2002 Lewis Holiday Party
Lord Of The Hams

3Mb Download
The movie was just getting ready to come out, and it seemed like the perfect topical tie-in. Once the idea came, the rest just fell into place…

2002 Erik’s Halloween Party
Elmwood Acres Home for the Criminally Insane

168K Download
Come as your favorite insane person. A lot of possibilities, and not much flyer-effort required.

2002/2003 Lewis Holiday PartyI’m not 100% sure what happened this year…

2003 Erik’s Halloween Party
Children’s Literature

722K Download
Even though I liked this theme, and I liked the flyer, I have to admit that my costume was a cop-out…

2003/2004 Lewis Holiday Party
Holiday Eye for the Party Guy

624K Download
Another blatant atempt to cash in on the phenomenon of the moment.

2004/2005 Lewis Holiday Party
Japanese Flyer

480K Download (front and back are in one .pdf file)
I went to Tokyo this year, and I saw a lot of travel brochures that looked like this. In fact, here’s a scan of the original flyer I based this one on (72Kb). I used Google’s translation tool to translate the English to Japanese, and surprisingly, it actually comes out in Japanese characters (I’m not sure if it’s Katakana or Hiragana). I then ran it back through the Japanese-to-English translation to get the slightly “off” wording that appears on the back… I hope someone who reads Japanese sees this and can tell me what it really says!
