I found an article about this technique, called tilt-shift photography… It requires a special lens to do this directly with your camera, but the effect can be faked with Photoshop. I think it looks pretty cool!
Well, I finally completed the sculpture that I planned to give to my mom for her Birthday on Friday the 25th… It took a lot of thinking, experimenting, and testing to finally get it to work the way I wanted it to. I ended up cutting about 4 inches off of each blade. It seems that there is a limit to the structural integrity of 20 gauge steel! At this size, the whole thing is pretty stable. I’ll have to see how well it works in really high winds! My mom’s house is certainly the place to test it!
I finaily started today on the new sculpture I had been planning for a while. In fact, I cut the blades about 2.5 weeks ago. Here it is!
At my mom’s encouragement, I entered one of my sculptures in to the Orange County Art Association art show in the 3-Dimensional category. Guess what? It was accepted! I got into my first art show with my second sculpture!
So we went to the opening on August 11, and there it was in all its glory! Now let’s see if someone buys it…
I just completed a new sculpture. It took me about three (partial) days to complete. Take a look at more details on my Welding page…
I met someone at the Koroneburg Ren Faire who made me think about art and whether I really had anything artistic to contribute to the world. I told Natasha just the other day that I feel like I have the skill to do many things, but I don’t have anything to say… So today I decided to try and say something. I started with a piece of lava rock I collected last time I was up in Mammoth. I’ve started to weld a cage of round stock around the rock… Right now the welds look pretty ugly, but when I clean it up, it’ll look better. I don’t really know where this will go, but I’ve got some ideas. Now I just need one of those auto-darkening welding helmets!
You can go to the welding page to see pictures of the finshed product, and of another one I completed since then.
